Not sure what you’re going to do with all of those Thanksgiving left overs in your fridge? Make another meal out of it! Try this Ideal Protein friendly turkey soup recipe!
For this turkey soup recipe, you’ll need:
2 quarts low sodium chicken broth
1 turkey carcass, all meat removed
1 whole stalk celery, plus 1 more stalk, minced
2 bay leaves3 cups dark turkey meat
2 garlic cloves, smashed
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 stalk celery, minced
3 cups leftover cooked Thanksgiving side vegetables (Brussels sprouts, turnip, green beans)
1 tablespoon chopped fresh sage leaves
Once you have all of your ingredients:
Put chicken broth, turkey, onion halves, carrot halves, one celery stalk, and one bay leaf in a large stock pot. Bring to a boil, then simmer about 1 1/2 hours. Finely dice the remaining onion, carrot and celery and reserve.
Dice the turkey meat. Make sure meat pieces are no larger than the size of a soup spoon. (If preparing soup the next day, be sure to store leftover turkey meat in an airtight container before placing it in the refrigerator, top with one or two ladles full of broth to keep meat moist.)
Before straining broth, remove large bones and carcass with tongs. Strain the broth through a sieve, covered with wet cheese cloth. Discard the solids. Transfer broth to a bowl set in a bath of ice water, which will cool the broth quickly and help keep it fresher longer. This can be done the night before and stored in the refrigerator until the next day.
In a large soup pot, heat garlic cloves in the olive oil. Allow to brown slightly and add minced celery, and onion. Sweat over medium-low heat until softened, about seven or eight minutes.
Dice the leftover vegetables (here brussels sprouts, turnip and green beans). Add the chopped sage to the soup pot along with the turkey broth and the remaining bay leaf. Bring to a simmer. When simmering, add Brussels sprouts, green beans and diced turkey meat to the soup. Bring it back up to a simmer.
Finally, add the turnip to the center, and gently push them down. Turn the heat off and cover. Allow to sit and steam for five to seven minutes. Let simmer for five more minutes and serve.

The Delicious Taste of Ideal Protein Food!

We caught up with two of our 7Company members and dieters, Janelle and Elysa, to learn more about their favorite Ideal Protein foods.
Janelle started on the diet in August of 2016, and has made incredible progress since. When asked about her favorite Ideal Protein meal, she told us she has quite a few favorites. “I like the Maple Oatmeal, Vanilla Crispy Square, and the Cookie Dough Swirl Bar,” Janelle said. She also shared an Ideal Protein “hack” with us! “The best hack I have done so far is to purchase the ‘sport drink’ packets that Ideal Protein offers. The tangerine flavor is my favorite. Whenever I am craving something sweet, I will often times pour one of these into my water and it satisfies my sweet tooth. ”
Elysa began her journey with 7Company in May 2016. Just like Janelle, Elysa has several Ideal Protein favorites! “I love the chocolate coconut bar! It tastes just like a candy bar and reminds me of an Almond Joy. The Lemon Wafers are another favorite of mine. They are a wonderful afternoon treat, and go great with a cup of tea or coffee.” Elysa also shared some details regarding the transition from normal foods to Ideal Protein. “The good thing is that you get to eat lots of “real” food. Lean protein and veggies. Yes, I can’t lie, there were definitely things that I miss from the carb and dairy categories, but I wouldn’t trade them for losing the significant amount of weight that I have lost! The biggest thing that I found was that you needed to plan ahead of time.”

How Ideal Protein and Blogging Helped Janelle Keep the Weight Off
Get to know Janelle! She began her Ideal Protein weight loss journey with 7Company one month ago, and started her own blog in the process. Janelle sat down with us to share some details about her experience, and her favorite parts of the Ideal Protein diet!
Q: What made you want to join 7Company?
A: One of my classmates told me about her experience with 7Company and I was intrigued. A couple weeks later, she told me that the company we worked for was planning on offering the program to employees. I was asked if I would be an ambassador and of course, I said yes!
Q: When did you start with 7Company?
A: August 22, 2016.
Q: What is your favorite Ideal Protein meal?
A: I have a few favorites. I like the Maple Oatmeal, Vanilla Crispy Square and the Cookie Dough Swirl Bar.
Q: How often are you in contact with your coach?
A: I see my coach once a week (usually on Mondays).
Q: How has your coach helped you on your weight loss journey?
A: My coach Yasmine is awesome! She allots for half hour appointments to discuss anything and everything I want to address. She is also available 24/7 via text message for any questions or concerns that I might have during the week. Had I not been seeing my weight loss coach, I more than likely would have stopped the diet after the second week. Yasmine’s encouragement and guidance keeps me going.
How blogging helped Janelle stay on track to reach her weight loss goals
Q: What gave you the confidence to start your own blog and share your story?
A: I figured that if I had to sit down and think about the previous week and write about it, then I would be more inclined to stick with my diet. Ultimately, I wanted to start blogging so that when I was having a really rough week I could go back and remind myself that it was not as bad as something that had happened in the past. I had no idea that my blog would be so successful! I shared it on my Facebook and the feedback that I received from friends and family was incredible. I’ve even had individuals reach out to me and share their own weight loss struggles as well as the fact that they can relate to my blog posts and the fact that I am an inspiration for him or her to keep going. It has been an incredibly humbling and rewarding experience.
How the Ideal Protein Diet changed Janelle’s life
Q: Other than eating different foods, how has your life changed since starting the diet?
A: The biggest life change has been not drinking. I am 28-years old and most of my socializing is done over happy hour or at a a bar. I cannot tell you how many times I have been tempted to drink or asked if I would like to go out since beginning this diet (I wrote about this in my blog, actually). On top of this being my social scene, I am in Marketing and there are work events that I attend that will involve alcohol. It is a constant in my life that tests my willpower often!
In addition to the no-alcohol, the diet has affected the way I order food when I go out to a restaurant. I’ve had to ask the waitress to tell the chef not to use things like butter or regular oil and have requested healthier substitutes. It has made me actually look at the side dishes that are offered with meals and thus rethink my order. I will look at the menu ahead of time now so when I get there I can immediately say to the waitress, “I want XX dish, so please substitute the sides with XX vegetable and cook with olive oil.” Straight to the point.
The success of the 7Company Ideal Protein Diet
Q: Would you recommend 7Company and the diet to others looking to lose weight?
A: What I would say to people who are looking to start the Ideal Protein diet is that you must be ready to commit to your weight loss journey. The diet does work, the coaching element is great and the food is pretty good.
Q: Are there any recipes that you make on your own that you would like to share with others?
A: There area ton of recipes online that are allowed on the Ideal Protein diet that I really enjoy. My favorite is the Naked Burrito Casserole. I substitute the red meat for the ground turkey for less grease and it is delicious. Additionally, I’ve found that cauliflower rice and spaghetti squash are perfect additions to any dinner and/or lunch. It really tricks your mind into thinking that you are eating rice or spaghetti!

Looking for a new yummy side dish? Try making Mashed Fauxtatoes and gravy! This easy to prepare recipe will be the perfect addition to any main course!
For this mashed fauxtatoes recipe, you’ll need:
1 head Cauliflower
4 ribs Celery
4-6 cloves Garlic
Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO)
Spices (sea salt, pepper, paprika, cumin, etc.)
1 cup of Chicken Broth
Once you have all of your ingredients, preheat oven to 350 degrees. Rough chop the Cauliflower florets, chop the stems more fine, and chop the Celery in 2″ pieces and leave the garlic in the shell (they will roast inside themselves). Place veggies on cookie sheet, spray with EVOO, sprinkle with spices. Roast for 30 minutes until the cauliflower florets start to brown. Blend veggies with 1 cup Chicken Broth and additional spices to taste. Several of our dieters use this as a soup thickener often, which makes for a very hearty, thick bowl!
*The celery adds a light/no flavor to this purée, you can omit if desired.
For the gravy, you’ll need:
Braised Celery, Mushroom, & Garlic Purée
1 lb Mushrooms
4 ribs Celery
4 cloves Garlic
Spices (sea salt, black pepper, thyme, rosemary, sage, etc.)
One can of Chicken Broth
Once you have all of your ingredients, lightly spray a sauté pan with EVOO. Chop celery in thin slices, place in sauté pan, cooking at medium heat ~5-8 minutes until they start turning transluscent. While the celery is sautéing, wash and thinly slice the mushrooms, then add to the sauté pan. Dice the garlic, add to the pan, and allow the garlic brown slightly while adding your spices to taste. Add Chicken Broth to just barely cover vegetables and allow to simmer over low heat 10 minutes. Pour into a blender and purée until smooth, and add some spices.
